Shopify product CSV preflight, entirely in your browser.

Catch risky catalogue rows before Shopify does.

CatalogVigil is a browser-local Shopify product CSV preflight utility that detects import problems before product data reaches Shopify. Your catalogue is not uploaded, and every suggested change is previewed before a new file is created.

Required fields and destructive dependency risks differ.

Quoted fields, UTF-8 text, delimiters, line endings, and row widths are checked without sending file data away.

2

Trace the risk

Blockers, warnings, and advisories identify the affected row and distinguish Shopify rules from CatalogVigil checks.

Export evidence

Download an issues CSV, privacy-minimised audit JSON, or a corrected copy containing only changes you selected.

What does a Shopify product CSV need?

Which columns are required?

For new products, Shopify says Title is required; URL handle is also required when variants are added. For updates, both URL handle and Title are required.

See current and legacy headers

Why are option columns dangerous?

Variant fields depend on Option1 name and Option1 value. Shopify warns that omitting them during an update can create a default variant and delete existing variants.

Does CatalogVigil guarantee an import?

No. It checks deterministic, documented rules and conservative advisories, but it cannot see your store state, product references, image availability, app behavior, or Shopify's future validation.

Frequently asked questions

Before you use the checker

Is my Shopify CSV uploaded?

No. File reading, parsing, validation, fixes, and exports run in your browser. Optional analytics is disabled by default and, if configured, accepts only coarse event counts—not file names, SKUs, handles, titles, URLs, or cell values.

Can I check an old Shopify CSV export?

Yes. CatalogVigil recognises documented legacy names such as Handle, Body (HTML), Variant SKU, and Image Src, then explains the current equivalent. Renaming is previewed and optional.

Will the tool change my original file?

No. The original file remains untouched. A corrected download is a new CSV and includes only the reversible normalisations selected in the preview, plus UTF-8 comma-separated LF serialisation.

Is CatalogVigil affiliated with Shopify?

No. CatalogVigil is an independent utility. Shopify is a trademark of Shopify Inc.; links to Shopify Help Center are included as rule sources, not endorsements.
